In a disturbing incident in the Aliganj police station area, a group of youths vandalized a Biryani shop on the night of December 13/14 after its owner, Irfan Qureshi of Puraniya, refused to pay a ransom of ₹1 lakh. Qureshi reported that the extortion demand had been made a week prior, and he had declined, asserting that he operated an honest business and could not afford the requested amount.
CCTV footage from the scene captured images of the culprits, and the police are currently working to identify the owner of the recorded SUV registration number to track down the perpetrators.FIR has been filed under relevant charges, and the police are actively investigating the case, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ashutosh Kumar.
Irfan Qureshi, residing in Puraniya, Aliganj, expressed his fear for his life after the ransom demand and subsequent attack on his establishment. Qureshi emphasized his refusal to succumb to dishonest dealings and highlighted the financial impossibility of meeting the ₹1 lakh demand.
He reported the incident to the police on December 16, explaining that he had initially hesitated due to fear and consulted with well-wishers before deciding to file a complaint. The victim's apprehension is heightened by the existence of CCTV footage featuring the faces of those who demanded the ransom. The police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
